Jess + McKenzie // The Family

Jess had asked my wife is she knew anyone who took photos. Jess was in for a surprise. She wanted a family photo with her daughter and was tired of the run-of-the-mill photo sessions in Walmart or Sears. This is where I come in.

I have always made sure that my photos are not the norm.  I like to experiment, try out new things, and give a flair for the dramatic. I was ready to come into this shoot trying a slew of new things… that is until I met McKenzie.  That girl stole my heart! All the ideas I had just were rolled over by the beauty of this little girl.

So we scrapped the ideas and came up with some new ones.  I am never surprised at how much personality comes across when the models are just having fun.  This shoot was such a blast.  Every time I get clients like these it just solidifies the passion to do this full time.

Thank you Jess and McKenzie! I can’t wait to photograph your family again soon!

Jace, Ava, and Ella // The Dicola’s

This is a first for Adept Ink + Pixel. Not so much a first at portraits with kids, but a first not the less.  My wife Dionna McCarthy edited these pictures.  She is helping the family business grow and grow.  She also helped second shoot a wedding with me and I couldn’t have loved having her there more!

It is almost poetic that she be the one to edit these pictures.  When Jace and Ava were very small (Ella not even born yet) Dionna started to babysit these three beautiful children.  4 years later it was an honor to have them in our wedding as the ring bearer and two flower girls.  My oh my how they have grown!

When their parents had asked if I wanted to take some Christmas pictures for them I couldn’t have been happier to say yes! It was finally time to bring out the new ring light, get the kids to sit still, and find some old Christmas lights to make this shoot amazing.

Dicola’s – You are so energetic and full of life! Thank you for letting my wife and I into your family.  Remember we are always here to support you, watch you grow, and love on you for the rest of our lives.

Ryan McCarthy // My Birthday

Today is my 31st birthday.  It’s mind boggling to me that 15 years ago I was only 16.  I’m trying not to think of myself as old, and (in fact) I am not old.  Today, though, I feel different.

My wife, as she often does, is a pillar to be.  She is someone I can have a bad day with and come through the other side feeling better then I went in.  She reminded me today that there are plenty of challeges and risks left to take. Even though she didn’t say it I could hear her heart being proud of the man she married.

I am in a bit of a funk today, but I refuse to let this year go by with out taking some risks.  All-be-it I want to take positive risks.  Ones that will benefit my family, my future children, and benefit my wife.  So 31…. bring it on because I am not afraid of you.

About Ryan McCarthy

Passion is defined as a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything.  Passion is something that controls my drive for the arts.

As a young child I picked up my first pencil and fell in love with drawing. My desire to be a better artist fueled my career path, first as a graphic artist and web designer,  and now as a professional photographer. I approach a shoot in a very artistic way, whether it be a wedding, family portraits, or shooting for my personal projects.  I try to balance a photo journalistic approach with the eye of a cinematographer. The dichotomy between the two is what makes my photographs modern, clean and unique.

I use a Canon 5d Mark ii as my primary camera.  I have two external  flashes, and one Ex560 ii.  Lenses I currently use are a 24-70mm 2.8f, a 50mm 1.4f, 85mm 1.8f,  the  70-200mm 2.8f, and a 100mm macro (all Canon lenses).  I have four 32GB compact flash cards to make sure I can handle around 4000+ photos. I shoot in RAW, and edit with Aperture 3, Lightroom 3, and Adobe Photoshop CS5 Professional.

My wife, Dionna, is my biggest fan. She is amazing to put up with my hectic schedule and constant work drive. She actually has to remind me to take breaks.

If you have any questions or just want to chat over coffee I would love to hear from you.
